2022: Art Week in Miami
From NFT art installations to an MF Doom tribute at a swanky art show on South Beach, anything you can imagine could be seen on display during art week in Miami. This year, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend and soak in all of the innovative artwork.

Art Basel
I was shocked, yet pleasantly surprised to see how diverse Art Basel 2022 was. Founded in 1970, Art Basel is grown into North America’s most comprehensive international contemporary art fair.
While I looked forward to discovering new artists at Art Basel that I could add to my art palette, I didn’t expect to see such an array of diasporic representations. I felt so privileged to be able to experience and enjoy work from Ghanaian painter, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, and Queens, NY artist and storyteller, Christopher Myers, all under one roof.
During Art Basel 2022, I was split between being so grateful for the opportunity to discover new artists, such as BARRO and Angeles Agrela, to being so excited to see new work from some of my favorite artists, such as Kehinde Wiley, Nina Chanel Abney, and Bisa Butler.

Scope Art Show
I concluded my week at Miami art week 2022 at Scope Art Fair on Miami’s South Beach. This event had one of the best selections of contemporary art that I have seen so far. I spotted a booth display by Lucy Sparrow(who was not very friendly) that recreated a 1990s McDonald’s vision made entirely of felt, an MF Doom Tribute made of dozens of tiny crystals, and more.

Wynwood Walls
This was my first year ever visiting Wynwood Walls. For years, mural lovers from around the country have boasted of the incredible outdoor art scene in Miami, which is primarily housed in the Wynwood neighborhood in Miami.

Avant Gallery
Avant Gallery is located inside the Aventura Mall, not too far from Miami, FL. If you’re into early to mid-career contemporary artists and you’re on an art high, Avent Gallery is a great place to stop during Art Week in Miami.

An Overview of Art Week in Miami 2022
Overall, Miami has been great to me. I became a Cuban sandwich-eating connoisseur, dabbled in a few cafecito breaks to gather my energy in between art shows, witnessed some of the most thought-provoking artwork, and had intriguing conversations with some of the brightest art lovers in the country.
If I had to rate the artwork, I would give it 3.5 stars. I am a sucker for realism and I couldn’t help but notice that the Miami art scene doesn’t necessarily focus on that style of artwork. However, I would say I had a 5-star experience. The weather was perfect, the art was arting, and I’m ecstatic that my experience at Art Week in Miami 2022 was the first to ever be documented on CaressaLosier.com—my self-titled website.
